Fitch expert: Russia may decide on 5G frequencies this year

MOSCOW, Feb 28 (PRIME) -- Russia may decide which frequencies to allocate for the 5G technologies this year, Fitch Ratings Senior Director Nikolai Lukashevich said on Friday.

Europe uses the 3.4–3.8 GHz range for 5G, while in Russia, the range is occupied by the military, Lukashevich said

“Unfortunately, we can state that it’s rather a lack of frequencies in Russia than their availability. The country has not decided on the main spectrum used in Europe, of 3.4–3.8 GHz. It’s better to say that there is a decision, but the question remains,” he said. “All operators hope the situation will change, but it’s unclear how.”

Not all manufacturers of equipment can support the 4.9 GHz range, he said.
